Summary:

Nic Pizzolatto, creator of HBO's True Detective, was a fiction finalist for the National Magazine Award and his story collection, Between Here and the Yellow Sea, was long-listed for the Frank O'Connor Award for Short Fiction. His story "The Guild of Thieves" was the Honorable Mention for the 2007 Pushcart Prize, and George Pelecanos selected his "Wanted Man" for inclusion in the Best American Mystery Stories 2009. Now Pizzolatto expands his talents to novel-length noir, telling the story of an ex-con running for his life-in more ways than one.On the same day Roy Cady is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he learns that his employer has put a hit out on him. After narrowly escaping an attempt on his life, Cady goes on the run with a young prostitute named Rocky and her three-year-old sister, from New Orleans to Galveston, Texas. But though they run, they cannot hide in this explosive, atmospheric, impossible-to-put-down thrill ride.
